The endurance athlete, especially the long distance runner, may not have the same well developed upper body muscle mass and may as a result display some form of kyphosis about the upper back and neck areas. What does their current force-velocity curve look like? Recruiters often evaluate a particular sport’s eligible group of players to see who premiere players are and who are good or average. When hiring a new sales representative, look for the empathy of a good friend and the competitiveness of a star athlete in equal measure. As a coach, I will utilize a “quicker” athlete who might only have decent speed in a basketball game, say, over a faster athlete who never has an opportunity to reach full speed because a basketball court is much shorter than a larger football or soccer field (for example). Whether it’s longer duration cardiac output circuits or higher intensity intervals, find something that works for you and stick to it! And furthermore, even if some athletes are training power, unfortunately, they’re doing it incorrectly!
